Racial Profiling Is The Order Of The Day

Bishop Robert E. Smith - On Racial Profiling

Some have said that racial profiling is unlawful, unethical and un-American. I say Racial Profiling is only Natural, National and Necessary.

As a Christian, it should be understood that there is a big difference between “Discernment” (1 Corinthians 2:14,15) and “Racial Profiling” (1 Corinthians 10:32; John 4:9,22). A mature Christian discerns the spirits behind the communications and actions of others (1 Corinthians 12:10) and discerns by a sufficient knowledge of the Word of God, the thoughts and intents of the heart of others (Hebrews 4:12). However, most of the world is not Christian and those who are, for the most part, are not spiritually mature.

On the other hand, Racial Profiling carries with it a degree of hostility, which is only natural (Ephesians 2:15,16) and one should not be greatly disturbed by the uneasiness that is associated with it. For instance, one could be highly upset with Jesus’ words to the woman of Canaan, when He said, “It is not meet [fitting] to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs” (Matthew 15:26). A person who understands Jesus’ mission, knows that those words were only the means to an end; “O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt” (v28).

I was privileged some years ago, to be commissioned to the Governor’s Task Force on Racial Profiling in the state of Arkansas. The commission consisted of attorneys, civil rights workers, city, county and state law enforcement representatives, the business community and a couple of pastors. After two years of circuit riding the state, holding hearings and fielding questions and complaints regarding Racial Profiling, by law enforcement agencies, I concluded, that it is best to teach people how to use the “Natural Propensity” for Racial Profiling as a means to an end; the end being “National Security”.

That brings us to the question of other aspects of profiling, such as “sectarianism, class and etc... When it comes to National Security, pages 26 and 27 of an American Passport reads as follows: “The cause of freedom is not the cause of a race or a sect, a party or a class – it is the cause of humankind, the very birthright of humanity”. Therefore, any race, sect, party or class of people who undermines our birthright to live and maintain the cause of freedom, is suspect!

As we continue to profile people in areas such as “sectarianism, class and etc...; we know that many embrace the idea, that “all religions, roads and ways lead to God”. To be technical, or scriptural, it is very true; all of the above do lead to God. However, if you packaged all of the diversities of religions, roads and ways to God, there would be of necessity philosophical melt downs of: “maybe, maybe not” “it’s either or” “you are right or you are wrong”.

Jesus said that, there is a broad way and there is a narrow way; that fits the “either or”. Jesus also said to, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life…” that fits the “maybe, maybe not”. And finally He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” and that fits the “you are right or you are wrong”. But whether people are, either or, maybe, maybe not, right or wrong; everyone will get to meet God. We will meet the God of love, or a consuming fire (John 3:16; Hebrews 9:27;12:29).

In further profiling, there is a religious system (Islam) among the many that are on the broad road that leads to destruction, which all others had better be aware of. It is a system that is wild (that is violent), and against all others (Genesis 16:12). It started with a man by the name of Ishmael (not Mohammad). As the apostle Paul declared to the Galatians, “But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now” (Galatians 4:29). Mohammad was the thesis writer of, as Paul puts it, “another gospel” preached to Mohammad by an angel (fallen) from heaven, that is accursed (Galatians 1:8,9).

When profiling, it behooves us to ask the question; “Who is your mother?” Is she mount Sinai in Arabia (Arab) which genders to bondage; or is she Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children (natural Jews); or is she the Jerusalem which is above and free which is the mother of us all (Christians) Galatians 4:24-26. For the sake of national security, a “Christian nation” is not a threat to freedom. A Jewish nation is not a threat to freedom, mainly because she is in bondage with her mother wanting to be free. But an Arab nation “genders (procreates; conceives and bring forth) bondage, which is a threat to “the cause of humankind, the very birthright of humanity”. In short, those who know not how to profile will become defiled, compromised, neutralized and finally pulverized into a powdery nation blown away with the winds of CHANGE!
